While a new government is taking shape, bombs still fall over Afghanistan. The bombing has contributed to thousands more innocent civilians dead, and millions homeless and hungry. The Taliban seems to be history. Was the military campaign sucessful or is this just the beginning? The miltary planners are considering large scale deployment of ground troops. Meanwhile, US citizens deal with another kind of terror, bio- terrorism by mail, possibly a "home grown" variety, small scale but worrisome. And how will Pakistan stand in the face of widespread protests? How will Israeli policy influence the current crisis/war? How will the popular resolve for military force hold in the face of potential US and British prisoners who will not be treated according the Geneva Conventions? How will the US and global economy be affected? How may civil rights and liberties be abridged? How will it all resolve? As we ponder the possibilities, wondering how we, the peace and justice community, can call for a just resolution when al-Qaeda seeks solutions beyond anything like justice, we present an updated edition of Voices of Peace. Some of the articles aren't brand new but are useful tools to help us think and act about the current dilemma of war and peace.

Throughout American history, pen and sword have crossed in times of crisis, often resulting in positive cathartic developmental leaps." Regular Orion contributing writers, from Wendell Berry to Scott Russell Sanders, respond here to the tragic events of September 11th, 2001.
