Crooked River Ranch Board Opposes Cogentrix

By unanimous vote, the Crooked River Ranch Board of Directors voted at their Tuesday Board meeting to oppose the Cogentrix Grizzly Project. A letter addressed to the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners states, "The Board feels that the negative impacts to the environment and the negative impact to the health, safety and welfare of our members is far greater than any benefit that may be derived from allowing the plant. Please take our recommendation and oppose the plant."

According to Vern Bowers, President of the Board, "Central Oregon's pristine desert environment is at odds with the pollution and water usage of the proposed Congentrix plant. What they take far outweighs what they give back to the community and we just cannot support their locating in our county."

According to Mr. Bowers, "The Cogentrix pump test was heard by many residents and created a negative impact on the peace and tranquility at the ranch." The Cogentrix Opal City well field is located on the rim directly across the Crooked River Canyon from the Ranch. Crooked River Ranch has approximately 4500 residents in their Association, with a golf course, RV park, swimming pool, sports facilities, senior center, and equestrian center.
